| THANK YOU...
Thank you to all of the NACE family members who generously opened their hearts and helped me and my husband create a care basket filled with money and gift cards for Liz Bakunovich and Anne's kids. We were so excited when we delivered the basket; you helped turn a small gesture into a really nice gift. It is through simple acts of kindness that lives are touched, children smile, and burdens are lifted off of people, even if it is just for a little while.
For all you are, for all you do, thank you!

PRESIDENT REPORT
Hello Detroit NACE members and visiting guests. Welcome to 2008!
It is with admiration I share that our Board has been busy strategizing and preparing programs for the coming year. We are very fortunate to have such a diverse collection of volunteers committed to bringing incredible ideas in a format that we feel will be rewarding to you. Please welcome new members to the board and give thanks to those who are staying on to continue serving the membership in new and continued ways.
Last November, we held a Town Hall meeting at Laurel Manor where a number of people gathered to brainstorm for 2008. What came from that meeting, besides really good food, was an echoing concern in three key areas. The three factors conveyed were Marketing in today’s economy; Networking your membership and Design/Education. While there were a number of other great ideas, some of which you will hopefully see in coming months, those were the three that rang out loud and clear. The wonderful thing I saw is that those are also key elements in our NACE Mission statement. Thank you to all who participated in this information gathering session! The board agrees it was time well spent and extremely useful as we move forward!
Looking ahead, the things that I know we will see in the next few months:
• A great event as NACE celebrates its 50th Anniversary on June 3, 2008. Laura Davis will be the planner for this occasion and Big Rock/The Reserve will be our host for the evening. This plans to be a stellar event as Detroit joins chapters around the country simultaneously recognizing this milestone!
• Annual Greater Detroit NACE Excellence Awards will again be produced as we gather to recognize members in our chapter for their expertise in the event industry.
• The return of TABLETOP WOW, celebrating its fourth year. Designers in our organization are invited to create teams competing to show their interpretation on a theme.
• A Detroit NACE family picnic is waiting to unveil. The premise for this occasion is simple: bring your family to enjoy a picnic, play some games and activities in a relaxed environment. Stay tuned for more information regarding this and other monthly occasions.
There is so much more the committees are working on and I don’t want to get ahead of myself in releasing too much information prematurely.
Stay tuned and check the website often for new information and get registered early for coming events. 2008 should be a great year and a good time for you to get involved in a program or active in a committee. While visiting our website, check out the listing for current Board members. Find an area of interest and contact the chairperson to let them know you’re ready to get involved and make a difference. We have a great foundation, but can always use a helping hand to build upon!
Looking forward to a great year!
Joseph Martinez, President
NACE Greater Detroit Chapter
