The January NACE Chapter Meeting was hosted at the newly renovated Troy Marriott. The turn out was fantastic with over ninety enthusiastic members and guests. It was great to see many new faces and members who have been a part of our NACE Chapter for years. The excitement built as our new NACE President, Joseph Martinez set the stage for an exciting year to come!
The scene was set in fuchsia, gold and hot reds with halo and samba overlays from Chair Covers & Linens. Crystal Balloons showcased trendy, wired balloon trees and the Troy Marriott featured delectable “eats” including, Caesar Salad Martinis, Peking Duck Spring Rolls, Antipasto, Salmon Coulbiac and Roast Prime Rib. Members and Guests also enjoyed decadent desserts such as Lavender Cream Puff Swans, French Pastries, Crème Brulee and a “Create Your Own” Root Beer Float Station. Kurt from Mike Staff Productions provided music and energy!
The Chapter played several DVDs highlighting the 2007 NACE Chapter Award Dinner and the popular Table Top WOW competition. Many members were buzzing and brainstorming about creative ideas for the 2008 competition scheduled at the Roostertail in April.
The momentum continued as we launched the NACE CHAPTER 2008 Calendar of Events. Bill Lonskey, Program Chair announced many exciting upcoming programs, host sites and educational topics including our upcoming NACE 50th Anniversary Party hosted at the Big Rock/The Reserve on June 3rd.
We look forward to an amazing 2008 and can’t wait to see all of you at future NACE Chapter Meetings!

Letter From The President
Letter from the President
Happy February everyone! Looking out my front windows while at the office, February 1, 2008 I’m watching the snow continue to fall. Inside the walls I am content to let it snow! Spring will soon be here!!
Still coming down from the hype I had during Membership Mania! What a great experience it was and how wonderful to reconnect with Detroit NACE members while meeting new “prospect” individuals. The energy at the Troy Marriott was truly intense and the board has made a vow to keep the spirit alive. We hope those “prospects” will soon be family. Those who were able to make it had a chance to see the highlight video of the 2007 NACE Excellence Awards. Thank you to Video Magic for putting it together. It was awesome! We also had the opportunity to view the 2007 Tabletop WOW DVD Ryan Koral at Epic Motion created!
This past January, Debbie Heuchert, Kelly Brennan, Bill Hamilton and I represented Detroit at the Leadership Summit in Chicago. You should feel proud of the staff at NACE National who did a phenomenal job producing this weekend conference and providing us with a foundation to bring back home to you our members. A great deal of implementation should be in the near future of course with the assistance of our incredible 2008 Board. These are a group of people that I have the utmost respect for and trust. Stay tuned as we prepare to unveil a collection of great programs; including Tabletop WOW, a 5oth Anniversary event, a Detroit NACE family picnic, the NACE Excellence Awards (and more!) All of this is compounded by our drive to continue Community Service projects and fundraising!
On an endnote I look forward to seeing you February 20, 2008 at MGM Grand where we will have the opportunity to listen as Debi Weinstein from I’ve Gotta Get Organized, Inc shares with us tips and secrets to help us get it together!
Best wishes,
Joseph Martinez
Detroit NACE President

Please plan to join us as we learn the art of "Branding Your Company" from local expert, DJ Hurula. Mr. Hurla is president and lead creative for One Brand Studio, Inc., a Detroit area consultancy founded in 2003 to serve non-profit, corporate and individual clients with branding, graphic design, digital video and new media.
Drawing from more than 10 years experience in marketing communications, including corporate and freelance roles in creative direction, graphic design, video production, public relations and marketing, DJ provides strategic solutions that answer business and communication challenges. One Brand Studio is small but powerful, leveraging the talents of collaborators who join the team as needed for 3D animation, compositing, photography, audio production, commercial music and copywriting.
His concept of branding is simple: everything matters. Each touchpoint has the potential to build up or tear down. So it follows that every project should have a clear focus and produce demonstrated results. Because without results, even the best ideas are merely ink on paper and pixels on screens.
DJ holds a bachelor of arts in communication from DePaul University in Chicago, with emphasis on mass media and professional writing. He is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and a past member of the Adcraft Club of Detroit
